A supportive place for immigrant women to heal and find their inner voice

Do you find yourself having a hard time concentrating?

Maybe it seems like you’re forgetting so many things.

But it wasn’t always this way.

Moving to a new country demands so much reinvention: there’s learning a new language, finding your way round a new city , adapting to a whole new culture, and maybe even starting over in your career - all without the support you had at home.

So, if you’re feeling like…

  • “I’m struggling to stay focused and be productive at work. Is something wrong with me?”

  • “I’ve worked so hard to get here, but I’m still not happy.”

  • “I should be able to figure it out on my own.”

  • “I’m constantly on edge, like I have to prove that I deserve to be here.”

  • “I feel really alone, but I’m not sure who I can trust.”

You’re not alone.

Moving to a new country is a BIG change, but you’re strong, you’re resilient and you can do this… and I’m here to help.

You can:

  • Think of your well-being without feeling selfish.

  • Face your feelings and past experiences head on.

  • Be assertive and feel confident in who you are.

  • Regain control of your life.

  • Learn to listen and trust yourself.

  • There’s not a specific answer as it is based on your unique needs. Some clients feel equipped and ready to be discharged after 10-12 sessions, while others prefer more time. During our time together, we review goals to re-assess your needs, see what the progress has been towards the goals, make any changes or updates and based on this information we continue or prepare for discharge.

  • The initial session is a bit longer as we get to know each other, talk about what brings you to therapy and we discuss goals. I normally ask clients to prepare to meet for 1.5 hours. After that, our following sessions average 50 -60 minutes.

  • Yes. Trauma can have a variety of symptoms, we’ll talk about how it’s presenting for you during our initial session and discuss the best approach for your needs. You can also read about some approaches I use below.

Methodology

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is very different from talk therapy. It is an evidence-based modality that targets disturbing emotional life experiences in order to help people to heal from emotional distress. EMDR therapy targets a specific image/memory and uses bilateral brain stimulation to desensitize (decrease emotional intensity and reaction) and reprocess so that it’s stored differently and you no longer re-experience or react to this memory.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)/ Tapping

EFT is an evidence-based simple, rapid, and effective brain-based approach to relieving stress and trauma. It’s a combination of exposure, cognitive therapy, mindfulness and positive psychology with somatic stimulation based on of Chinese acupressure, that allows us to re-regulate the amygdala (stress center in the brain responsible for the fight/flight/freeze response) and takes the “charge” out of memories, emotions, and physical symptoms. . Takes the intensity out of memories, emotions and physical symptoms.
