Maybe you’ve noticed more crying or yelling recently. Perhaps they’re refusing to go to school or go anywhere without you. You may have noticed them feeling ‘on edge’ and it’s affecting their activities. Maybe they’re having constant nightmares or a really hard time falling asleep, or they’re no longer interested in activities and things that used to be exciting for them

You may have tried to do everything you thought you could do: talked to other parents, teachers, read books, listened to podcasts and you’re still unsure how to help your child. If you still feel powerless in the face of the challenges your child is experiencing, you’re not alone.

Therapy can help.

Your child can grow in confidence and learn to manage their emotions.

Therapy with me is done in an age-appropriate, creative ways that encourage your child to feel comfortable opening up in sessions and building skills that will help them be more successful at home, school and in life.

My approach to child counseling comes from a place of strength and growth: believing your child has what it takes to overcome challenges, but just needs some extra guidance and support in finding those resources within themselves. Your child’s therapy journey will be tailored to their unique needs.

Here’s how that might work:

If your child is very creative, we might use things such as art or play to get to know one another and ultimately help them overcome challenges.

If your child struggles to open up, my years of experience working with children allow me to tap into some fun ways to still form a connection and meet them where they’re at.

In therapy, your child can:

  • Learn how to identify their emotions and how to cope with uncomfortable ones

  • Reduce tantrums by helping them express themselves in an age-appropriate way

  • Identify sources of anxiety

  • Build skills to support themselves in difficulty moments at school or home

  • Increase connection with you

Big emotions don’t have to run your little one’s life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are child counseling sessions like?

A: During the initial session, I take some time to get to know you and your child individually. This session is longer so we can discuss your concerns and start exploring goals for therapy. I will mostly be meeting with your child for weekly sessions to work on goals, I can check in with you in the beginning or at the end of the sessions.

Q: How long does therapy last?

A: There’s not a specific answer for this, as this is based on your unique needs. I review goals every 3 months to see the progress and assess any changes needed. Some feel equipped and are ready to be discharged at this time, while others prefer more time.

Q: Will I be involved in this process?

A: Of course! However, please note that your involvement in sessions will vary as it’s my goal to establish rapport with your child. I will be checking in with you at the beginning of the end of each session, to also hear your perspective on the situation, and am open to hear from you if something comes up or you think it’s important for me to know.

Q: Can Online therapy be effective for a child?

Yes! Our sessions may look different each week so your child can be engaged and get the most out of therapy. This will include games, maybe some books/stories, among other activities. It will vary depending on your child’s age, personality, interests and needs.

Q: How do I get started?

You can click the link below to schedule a time to talk. During the consultation you’ll have some time to tell me what your concerns are and ask me any questions you may have.
